2009 was a big year for Microsoft and the open-source community. In addition to supporting standards and fostering an environment of two way dialogue, Microsoft started putting money where their mouth was in terms of real community updates and software to improve interoperability. They even released some quality code for the various major open-source projects!

CouchDb Question

During the evening I answered a question saying that you can query historic revisions of documents in Couch. This answer was the right one, the map-reduce is done over the latest revisions of documents.
A more detailed explanation of dealing with historic revisions will be appearing in the CouchDb wiki but for now the brief answer is that if the data is relevant you should store it under a different key in the document (for example Surname and Maiden Name), taking advantage of the schema-less nature of the data or you should separate the historic data into another document and then link via the id of the document representing the previous information. This would then allow you to work back to the main document. For example for addresses you could store each person's address in a different document and then have an array field in the main document that holds the ids of previous addresses in historic order.
You can go to the CouchDb IRC channel to discuss the issue in more detail.

Web Unconventions wasn't recorded, it's a bit of a shame but I guess it makes it a bit more special for people who were there. Our sessions are generally recorded by Skillsmatter and it is down to them whether they want to record an event or not.
The videos are not specially identified as being LGN or not. However we do link talk videos to the pages for that talk on the wiki so if there isn't a link then that talk wasn't recorded.

I have just come across this site, and was wondering if there was any space available for tonights talk. Also I can't seem to find any contact/registration details for this and future events. Any pointers on registration would be appreciated.

The short answer is that the last couple of events have been rammed so last minute sign ups haven't been possible. In general we would like people to sign up on the Upcoming page for each event (you . However this is really to simplify food and drink orders.
If you want to come without registering at Upcoming then please create a thread on the page of the event that says you are coming.

Hello All,
I very much enjoyed the presentations given - these geek nights are becoming quite invaluable to me.
Question : is it possible to get copies from Mr. Dittus' presentation? He had heaps of interesting links near the end of his talk that I'd very much like to research.
Kind Regards,
Paul

All the links get added to the original talk page as we get them from the speakers. You can also post to the page threads.
I have added Martin's slides already.

Guys,
I joined the group recently and did not take part of any meeting yet. I would like to join this one but I doubt I can make it before 8:30. Is it a problem? Are the doors closed :-) ?
Thanks, Leo.

Thanks a lot for the help and replies Guys. I did put a "Yes" before the meeting, but changed to "No" when I realized I wouldn't be able to make it.
I am really looking forward the next one though, and then I will be on time :-)
Cheers, Leo.

Mobile developer(iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Simbian) , Java Developer, Objective C Developer, .Net developer.
Hi, I am currently playing with Rhodes(http://rhomobile.com/), Ruby framework to write cross platform mobile apps. I am in the middle of setting up environments, but not so much familier with all IDE, and ANT stuff, so would be nice if anyone can offer some help. In return, I am happy to share whatever I have learned about this framework so far (not much though). Also love to discuss with mobile app developers how useful this kind of framework is.
